Our February Member Spotlight shines on Steve Corliss, Principal at 1892 Capital Partners!

Steve Corliss is a powerhouse business executive who has achieved significant milestones with his family businesses since graduating from Pacific Lutheran University in 2006, and it doesn’t look like he is slowing down anytime soon. From developing pricing models at Corliss Resources to driving a 100% production boost, Steve’s strategic leadership and organization skills have proven successful. Now, as a Manager at Corliss Management Group and Principal at 1892 Capital Partners, he’s on a mission to ignite growth and profitability for his clients. It’s no surprise he’s mastered climbing the corporate ladder because when he’s not working, he is an avid mountain biker! He says he enjoys the physical challenge and that mountain biking has become his primary focus over the past year, apart from work and family commitments. If he’s not biking, he and his family are probably heading to the airport. Steve, his wife and children are frequent travelers, actively embracing the opportunity to venture beyond borders. They have intentionally sought out international experiences, ensuring his kids get a firsthand taste of the beauty and diverse cultures beyond the United States.

The webinars, certifications, and round tables have been a fantastic resource, as well as the exposure AAPL provides to the amazing and talented individuals and companies working in this industry.

Why did you become a member?

Supporting an industry association like AAPL is vital for its advocacy, networking, and educational benefits. AAPL has proven to be an invaluable resource for us, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support the association.

What is your favorite AAPL memory?

While not a direct answer, I’m eager to attend the 2024 AAPL Conference, as my previous experiences at industry events have been impactful. I anticipate gaining innovative ideas, inspiration, and an expanded network of industry experts from the AAPL Conference.

Why did you decide to enter the private lending profession?

I serve as a fifth-generation principal of our family businesses, which have thrived across various industries, including Real Estate, due to our predecessors’ entrepreneurial spirit and hard work. Transitioning into private lending was a natural progression for us, leveraging key relationships and our talented, knowledgeable staff. We relish the entrepreneurial spirit and creativity of private lending and the value it brings to our clients and community.

What are some accomplishments you are particularly proud of?

Nothing is more gratifying in life than raising my three children with my amazing wife. Beyond family, I am proud to serve as a steward and leader for our family business.

What is your favorite book, and why?

For business, I recently finished Pioneering Portfolio Management and the book does a fantastic job of detailing the importance of having a long-term approach for strategic investments. Most discernible was the focus on portfolio allocation and maintaining discipline and patience on long term investment strategies despite short term market volatility.

I’m working through Ulysses S. Grant’s biography and am inspired by it. He was a quiet, unassuming figure with profound character, determination, and humility, rising to meet the formidable challenges of his time — a truly inspiring journey.
